How Many Pro Bowls Did Tom Brady Play in
Late January brings with it three guarantees each and every year: blizzards, head colds, and Tom Brady dropping out of the Pro Bowl. In fact, I'm not exactly Elias Sports Bureau, but I'd be willing to bet that Tom Brady has dropped out of more Pro Bowls than any player in NFL history. To be fair, under Bill Belichick, many New England Patriots have seemed to consistently drop out of the most pointless event in team sports, likely because The Hoodied One encourages them to do so.
This year, however, the Pats might have done something that's never been done before. Seven Pats got selected for the Pro Bowl, and all seven dropped out. Not because of injury. Not because of a family issue. Just because they're the Pats, and the Pro Bowl is beneath them. Okay, maybe that's an unfair assessment, but it only fuels the fire of the millions upon millions of Patriots haters (as well as Tom Brady haters) that they drop out an event that fans vote them into just because they feel like it.
To be fair, the Patriots that many have come to know and hate seem to always advance at least as far as the AFC Championship Game. Of course, under current rules, players from teams who advance to the Super Bowl are forbidden from participating in the Pro Bowl, and those from teams who fall short in conference title games likely don't want to turn right around, fly out to Hawaii, and play in a game that has about as much intensity as a church league softball game.
However, never playing in it whatsoever is a different story, which is a perfect segue into this week's mystery: Has Tom Brady ever played in the Pro Bowl?
Putting my top-notch detective skills to work on this enigmatic case, I began by Googling "Tom Brady Pro Bowl" and found what would appear to be solid evidence proving that Pretty Boy has indeed suited up for the least interesting spectacle in sports.
But this picture of Brady appears too good to be true, Photoshopped almost. And, upon closer inspection, it's clear to me. This is a hoax, such as the infamous Bigfoot photo. Brady has never actually played in the Pro Bowl. There's no way.
Why would he? Tom Bratty–I mean, Brady–seems to always be in the AFC title game (except that one year when Bernard Pollard obliterated his kneecap in the first game), meaning he either advances to the Super Bowl or comes up short. This year, needless to say, he came up short…or, rather, Stephen Gostkowski came up wide. But I digress.
Why would you Pats haters expect Brady to fly out to dismal Hawaii during his time of grieving, mess around with other overpaid athletes for a week, and compete in a fun game meant to show appreciation for NFL fans? Tom Brady doesn't need to show any appreciation to the fans. He's Tom freakin' Brady. He's on that dumbass teddy bear movie. He's married to Gazelle or whatever her name is. He's been to six Super Bowls and only cheated his way to two of them. What else do you want from the guy? He doesn't need you, anyway!
Oh, so you're going to try and tell me that Peyton Manning always participates in the Pro Bowl, regardless of how his team fares in the playoffs? (Wait, he does? Oh…) Well, screw Peyton! He's just got nothing better to do. Brady's got an Uggs photo shoot coming up. So leave the man alone. Let him weep in his mansion. Let him bawl like a little girl in the arms of his supermodel wife. Let him shed tears while staring at his handsome visage in the mirror, all the while writhing in self-loathing. Leave Brady alone!Poor guy…he needs some time to mourn.
The Pro Bowl's garbage. It's pointless. It's boring. It's a waste of time. Don't fault Brady for choosing not to participate in it…ever. The poor guy hasn't even been to Hawaii in, like, six months. And the last time he went, he didn't even get to use his private jet because Gazelle used it to fly to a fashion show. Speaking of which, the sad sack of a quarterback is married to an antelope for Christ's sake! Cut the man a break, will ya?
Okay, I'm off my soapbox. Tom Brady has been voted into eleven Pro Bowls, and, even though I could easily look at box scores from past Pro Bowls to verify if he played in them or not, I have stuff to do. A detective has a life away from work, too, you know. So I'm closing this case. Bigfoot may exist, but Brady has definitely never played in a Pro Bowl, and he probably never will.
